Is a Muffler Heat Shield Necessary?

Yes a heat shield in that area is a very good idea, look for a decent muffler shop and they will install another one for you.

And where you need the heat shield the most is when going up hills, when the RV is going slow but the engine is roaring. Especially when towing something.

I'm not real famiar with the chevy chassis exhaust , but if the shield was over a Catalictic Converter , I,d definately replace it . They get much hotter than mufflers - Sea Hag
