I have a 72, Brave. It has a large rear fuel tank slung between the frame rails. The fuel filler comes out the front and the filler pipe winds it way forward and up into the rear galley bench seat and then out the wall. Its a home made affair. Using hose and muffler pipe.

I want to replace the bench seat with a captains chair. I'm not keen on having the fuel and vent pipes in the cabin. Can I turn this tank 180 deg (physically its doable) and have the fuel filler pipe rear facing near the spare tire? Is there a reason for not doing this? Safety ETC

None that I know of.  My filler necks do not enter cabin portion at all.  Sounds like this update was done mostly for convenience.

Our Chieftan had a rear tank, and the filler was located just above the rear bumper and below the rear cargo door.

@Dave. Yes the fuel tank was originally by the side door. This rear tank is an add on. Its huge. I would need a loan from the bank just to fill it.

I noticed it looks like the fella doing the diesel conversion is putting the fuel tank in with a rear facing filler too.

This would be better for me. Among other things I have a long black water tank that I could put across the RV if the filler pipe was not in the way.

Most rear tanks I've seen as well as mine has the filler neck coming out the rear. Should be no problem turning yours and putting the filler neck out the back. If I get a chance I'll get a pic for you.

I guess most important is having a gas cap that only vents one way!
