Carburetor and intake manifold options for 360-3

 Hey, classicwinnebago people,
Clueless Boomer here, still trying to figure out intake manifold and Quadrajet 4 bbl carburetor options to match up with my rebuilt Dodge 360-3 engine. I’ve decided to go with a stock cast iron manifold if I can find one. Searching for part #’s, I’ve located a list of Mopar intake casting numbers on the bionicdodge.com site at the following address:

It looks like they made 4 different 4 bbl intakes for 360 and 318 engines in the 1977-78 timeframe of my engine.
3830945 1975-77 360/4 Bbl Cast Iron
4095080 1978-80 360-318/4 Bbl Cast Iron
4100340 1978-80 360-1978-82 318/4 Bbl Cast Iron
4173915 1978-80 360-1978-83 318/4 Bbl Cast Iron
I don’t know what vehicle applications for these four intakes were, but I’m guessing some are EGR-equipped and some not.  My heads have air-injection (smog) ports, which my rebuilder tapped and plugged.  If anyone has any knowledge on these part #’s or insights on which intake/s might be more suitable for my Winnie, I’d appreciate your thoughts. i??
On the subject of Quadrajets, robin5750, you and ChieftainVA78Dave have offered some good input.  My problem is my ignorance on the subject of carburetors.  To look for a Q-jet in a salvage yard, I need to zero in 1^st on the Pontiac or Olds you recommended & year & then on a carb model #.  I’ve located a Q-jet site that may help in my search and in rebuilding it:

From the writeup on this site, I think I should be looking for a Quadrajet M4MC to convert with that electric choke kit you mentioned, or an M4ME with an existing electric choke, is that right?  And will any Quadrajet bolt up to a stock intake? Also, do I need to match w/ a model on a GM engine of roughly equal displacement to the Dodge 360? i??
I'd sure appreciate any light you can shed on my salvage yard searches.

Also look at this carb. Should be ready to go for ya. This guy seems to have good feed back. By the time you find the right carb, buy the choke kit and carb kit, this one will save you some money and a lot of head aches.  If you desire a larger carb the following one should do the trick. Either one will work for you. If it were me, I'd use the 750 cfm carb.

Disclaimer - I know jack about motorhomes.  So take this with a grain of salt and for what it is.  A guy that has had about every known carb problem to man over the last few years.

Every time I've had a struggle with carbs and intakes my solution was to buy a carb and intake from Edelbrock and the aspiration problems have gone away.  That's on engines with ALL air injection type emissions controls disabled.  That's as a hot rodder (so to speak, I "rescue" vehicles like I rescue dogs - nobody else wants them) and not an RV'er.  It's just my experience and opinion.  Lots of other people have had success doing other things.

I've beat my head on the wall, ruined engines and researched until I fell over.  But nothing beats new hardware in my book.  And I'm still not sure I did the right thing...   D:oH!

Someday I'd like to be an arrogant bum that knows everything, just for a day.  Just to see what it feels like.  I have seen no trace of anyone like that on this site.  It's just input, you can do what you like.  And I like that a lot.

75 and later MOPAR intakes would have had an EGR valve.

MOPAR did not put a 4bbl carb on a stock 360-3 motor until 1980

For trucks (1980 Motors Truck Repair Manual)
All 360-3 engines (75 & later) used a Champion F10 or RF10, 18MM tapered plug
All 360-1 engines (74 & later) used a Champion N12Y or RN12Y, 14MM gasket plug
All 360-1 engines (71 -73) used a Champion J13Y, 14MM tapered plug

All spreadbore carbs (Carter Thermoquad, Rochester Quadrajet, or edlebrock 1900 series) have the same base so are interchangeable

Dave, I don't believe Edelbrock  ever made quadrajets. They just rebuilt them. I know more than a few guys that have tried them. Some had good luck with them, others not so good. I don't think we even have a carb shop in town anymore. Most of us old guys do our own.

Yep Edelbrock did make a spreadbore.  1900 series but they are no longer produced new.  I provided a ebay link to them.  Tina has one on her HR.

There's an old time shop on Ulmerton... I think it's called,  "Just Carbs".  If anyone has one of anything ever made, they do.  I think the carbs actually breed in there on their own.  There's even several species on the endangered list and a couple which were believed to be extinct there.  I can see gobs and boxes and scores of them whenever they have the roll-up door open (which is all the time).

Yes, that's the place, Fredric!  I pass it on a regular basis but, it's always during rush hour traffic and I'm too busy watching the cars and trucks to get more than a glimpse of anything else.

I like the fact the carb they send is plug n play..  No adjustments unless you're a tweeker.  Just install and go..
