Tranny dipstick for 440, how long should it be?

My 440 rear main is leaking after 4 attempts to fix.  The biggest problem is the CABLE style dipstick got caught in the crank and broke the end off.  Can anyone with similar vehicle(79 chieftan) tell me exactly length from add mark to end of cable . Mine is around 44 inches but I need exact length. Dealer sent wrong part for my upcoming trip.  Any help much appreciated

I have a 75 Class A Indian, with a 440 engine.  The dip stick on mine is 48 and 1/2 inches long. it is a cable and  goes through the firewall up along side the radiator on the drivers side.  the metal tip is only 1.1/2 inches long. If this is any help to you.
