What type of diffferential does my 1973 Brave (440) have and how do I identified it? On my differential I found the numbers C34835 and a number 70. It has dual wheels. I want to put on a new aluminum differential cover on it because my friend burned (HOT) his differential pulling his 5th wheel and got me to thinking about my MH that is 15 years older than his truck. Thanks Gil

Without knowing what "M" model you have, the "70" on your rear axle would indicate that it is a Spicer model 70 with either a 4.56 or a 4.88 ratio and 7,500 lb capacity.  The number of teeth on the drive gear will indicate which ratio.  If it has 39 teeth, the ratio is 4.88.  If it has 41 teeth, it has a 4.56 ratio.

This differential was used on the M300 and RM350 models.

The RM300 was equipped with a Spicer 60HD with a ratio of 4.88 for 39 teeth and 4.10 for 41 teeth and 6,200 lb capacity.  The M375 and RM400 was equipped with a Spicer 70HD with 41 teeth and 4.56 ratio only with 10,000 lb capacity.

This covered all the models for that year so, if you look at your little VIN plate, just read the "model" number that is stamped on it and you can confirm which differential you have.

That is what it lists in my parts manual also - Spicer 70 for m300and M400 or  Spicer 70 HD on M500 - I have a 76 M400 with /440 that has the 70HD - 4.56 according to the tags and stamps - they generally used the 4.88 for 318 & 360 engine and the 4.56 for 440 engine - there should be a tag for the ratio on the case cover and a stamp on the casting above the imput shaft for model . -Sea Hag

Hi,
I have two ID plates one by the driver seat has the Model d20 and the other by the door has the Model R30. You talk about the M300, RM350 or the RM300 do you know which one is mine. The ID plate by the driver seat has the vin # 3313104346380. The ID plate by the door has the Vin # R39CA38151072 this second number is on the registration. Both plates have the GVW as 11000 lbs and the MAX Rear Cap. as MFG 7280 lbs. One last question, the plate by the door has this "Ton T9533744" do you know what this means? Thanks for all the help I am almost ready to post the pictures of my finish rig. Gil

The number is the dodge Vin # by the door  - your is a R4=R300 or RM300  you have a 440 3 Engine  chassis manf. date 1973 -  the dodge model and Vin is for the chassis it was shipped completed by dodge ( called incomplete mfg Date ) then shipped to winnebago for the coach work - The other Vin is Winnebagos Vin and model  D20  = Dodge chassis  20 ' - Sea Hag

Hi,
Pic up my differential cover from YOURCOVERS.COM my spicer model 70 is the same as a Dana 70. I don't know if this was an overkill but it has cooling fins, magnetic drain plug and I can change the oil without removing the cover. Thanks for all your help. Gil
