Sewing bloody buttons on dinette cushions?

I'm trying to sew buttons on the dinette cushions but I can't get the nylon thread knots to stay knotted!  This is starting to bug me.  I'm thinking about just getting cotton thread or something else...


(I can't get at the back of the buttons)


Any ideas?

wire would actually work, if you have a pair of end nippers to tighten and tie the wire

If the buttons are aesthetic,use one on the top of the cushion and one below on the bottom. Use a sailmaker's needle to go thru the cushion with nylon or fishing line. Start and finish at the underside of the cushion and use a cinch knot to tie off. Hope this helps.
