Just a few lines, to thank all you people here, for your help, assistance, guidance over the last 3 months :D

With no experience, no mechanic who'd touch it, no local spares, and no Walmart, my 87 Chieftain has gone from being a frumpy beige thing that smelt faintly of fish, to being a true home from home .... pretty well everything has been out, painted/fixed, then put back, and apart from the genny that i havnt got a look at yet, everything works as it should, and without the help of others, and the resources here on the forum, this wouldnt have happened .. .

Even in those moments when it looks like its all going to pot, the upbeat nature of this place and the people in it gave me a reason to carry on, get past the thing that was holding me up, and continue to the point im now at . ..

So here i am, packing up for the first trip tomorrow, just 2 days, 20 miles away .. im gonna take it as good karma that its also your independence day, that stuff sort of appeals to me ...

Thanks again, guys, couldnt have done it without ya all :D

I feel the same way here man. Everyone helping everyone. I promise you that the 20 mile trip will be a nail biter hoping everything goes well. But unlike most of the campers out there you'll know where to look and what to do because YOU did the work  :)ThmbUp. So here's to you my friend and have a safe trip.

In a few short weeks I'll be experiencing the same white-knuckle dread as I attempt a similar trip in my '88 Chieftain, hoping I don't need roadside assistance. Good luck!

<===== P.S. Nice avatar  :D

Back :D
Great drive, the winnie performed perfectly, not one issue to report :D
Not as white knuckle as i expected, roads were pretty quiet, got there to find that no way was the winnie fitting in the 'normal' space theyd allocated, so new space had LOADS of room, no neighbours, near the playpark and toilets, all good :D
Only American motor on the park, and the oldest, lots of admiring/jealous glances, set up took around an hour, same for the packing ... had a rainstorm first night, but no leaking meant we had a good laugh at the tenters trudging past the window at 6am, while we sat in the warm with a coffee :D

All in all, a great first trip, further next time, in a few weeks, for longer, somewhere near a beach im thinking :D

Nope, wasnt anywhere near as bad as i imagined it would be :D

i have a couple of things that i didnt know i needed :-

Electric hookup was only 10Amp, so no aircon, ive read somewhere of a way to use 2 hookups to share ampage, but ill have to look into it ... need some fake grass to go outside, that morning dew is a bit chilly .... must remember to put the windbreaks up in-line with the awning arms, cos it HURTS when you walk into em .. .. need wooden blocks to make the stabilizers nearer to the chassis, took more winding than i thought. .. will also get level bubbles mounted underneath by the stabilizing points, so i can see em as i adjust ... outside step goes 'clang' when you step on it, need to fix that cos it gets annoying with a 6 yr old running in and out ... need better lighting over the front seats, cos its the comfiest place to sit and read ... need new 240v kettle, that 110v is soooo slow .... his-n-hers fans cause interference with the wireless rear view cam, will swap the fans to coach battery, so if that fixes it ... strap that i installed to hold the tv still while driving needs a replacement, clip on it is poor .. need side headboard on the wall by the bed, thats pretty cold when you touch it in the night ... aircon vents seem poorly designed, might re-rout the outputs somehow ... need thermal screens for front windows, that dash gets real hot in the sun . .. airgun going with me next time, rabbits in the fields are fair game, might get me lunch ... best place to store shoes ?? .. .

Im sure ill think of some other stuff next time out lol ... ..but for now, im a happy camper :D

I like the screen you have around the outside.  They have "add a room" attachements for awnings which are really great, but they're also very expensive.  Your set-up is cool!

those windbreaks were real cheap too, 9 pound each, 5 metres long, so i got 2 .... www.sportsdirect.co.uk

my awning is a Fiamma Zip, can get the sides that zip on, with a door, but yup, expensive ...
