Does A 1976 Winnebago Chieftain Use A Deep Cycle Battery?

I was just wondering because I watched a video today about deep cycle batteries in RVs, but mine did not come with one.

If it does use one, what's it used for?

Lets see.  All 12VDC house lights, furnace motor and electronics, 12VDC for fridge, water pump, range fan, etc.  You do not want to run your chassis battery down.  Besides, chassis battery is made for high current (engine start) with fast recovery.  House battery (deep cycle) is made for low current draw over extended period.

Thanks, Dave. I bet our motorhomes are similar.

Now to get busy figuring out where it goes...? I'm guessing it goes in the same side compartment as the starting battery? And there should be lead wires in there somewhere for the components you mentioned?

Hopefully the big wires are there still to help locate. Use the search box on the main page to locate anything. Some have batteries under there dining booth seats and mine is in a locked compartment outside.
These things take a while to figure out but if you carefully check things and research it on here you'll find out the PO did some shade tree work. Take your time and it'll all work out my friend. Sometimes I don't like to use the search box but it'll narrow it down to a forum. Its like a miny Google

In the 'eyebrow" Winnebago models and most class A RVs of the 1970s, both the (1) chassis and (2) coach batteries were located in the same tray.  The class C usually had the coach batteries in the body while the chassis battery was up by the engine since that class used a heavy duty van chassis.

Dodge mounted the starter relay on the drivers side outboard the bell housing so it is not uncommon for the batteries to mounted on a tray on the drivers side.

Yep, the battery tray is in a locked compartment outside, just behind the driver.
