Can a BBQ LP Propane Tank be used for appliances?

I went and looked at a rv yesterday. Does any one know if you can use a BBQ type propane tank to test the gas appliances? There is no propane in the tank. Owner acted surprised. If everything works it would be a good deal. Thanks in advance.

YES if it's the standard BBQ tank

You will want to ensure that there is a regulator between the tank and appliance.

RVs already have a regulator.  All you have to do is put it in where the empty one is.

Make sure the tank/bottle is with the valve up and use a VERY soapy solution to look for leaks.

we use something like this.....our mounted tank is always full and we use the portable for the main....I also added extra valves so I can better control where my gas comes from.
