Actually I'm rather excited about the steering column restoration.Oh yeah don't forget the powder coat.

I got shipping confirmation on 2 of the 3 parts and on the powder coat..And on the cruise control..

This cruise control was found by the seller at a garage sale in a sealed box..I had this kit when I was a kid in the 70s for my Datsun pickup..
Had the pickup all customized out..Then someone stole it..sad day..

American Made Quality..

Wire end terminal are needed to rewire everything..Bought some China import..Sad!

Black tank Dump system..

Here is 2 pics for the dump of the black tank..I think it will flow well

Pulling down the rest of the steering column..

Pic 1 shows the pin that is pressed out of the hole shown in red..Slides out the side..Gonna need a new key tumbler..The lever that helps you turn the ignition is broken..

Pic 2 Shows the 4 screws that attach this broken part to the tube of the column.
PB blaster helped out..

Some of the parts after blasting with the soda blaster..Satin black applied before going in the oven at 380 degrees..

Here is the left side..Stored away all this time..that is why it is so dusty dirty..

Working on gluing fresh wood where the rotted stuff was..Primed the wood first..Then liquid nails clamped..Give it 24 hours to see how it stays together..

Well Now..I had a total failure with that Liquid nail product..After unclamping the thing, it had ZERO adhesion to the aluminum..I could have used spit and it would have worked better!!

Earlier in this build (years ago) I tried to use this on the original aluminum and pressure treated wood..It would not bond to the wood..Maybe because of the treatment substance..It would hold initially, but then fall off..

Internet search and found this newer product..Fuze it..Shown on the left in the picture..

Incredible first bond..seemed like you could get by without clamps..

But I did use clamps..The 2 items that you are clamping, will float out of position as it is being squeezed down..So check that as you tighten the clamp..

We will see what tomorrow holds..(Pun intended)..

I just put a small amount on a scrap piece of wood and just stuck it to a vertical metal piece..It grabbed and did not slip down..

When it comes to constructing the walls, maybe this product will be a better choice..

I think this new glue..Fuze it..Is going to work..Seems to really stay together..

A lot more price but it works..Very Well!!

There is 3 pieces of wood to replace..2 are done..clamped up the third this morning..Didn't have enough clamps to do all three pieces..

It has it's issues too..That is the way this whole motorhome has been..

I haven't used Fuse-It, but I've tried the basic version. I see that foam board is recommended; I plan to use Fuse-It for my new ceiling project. Thanks for the heads-up!

If you can get by with the original stuff..use it..This Fuze stuff is 3 times more expensive..Also it is very dense in getting it to flow out the nozzle..I had to use 2 hands to squeeze the handle on the caulk gun to dispense it out..It is just very thick..

The original glue would not stick to the aluminum skin..The fuze hold very well..I sanded the aluminum with a palm sander just to give it some bite for the glue to hold on..

But the original just would not stick to the aluminum at all..

I see these videos of people who buy brand new motorhomes..On the way home the roof is leaking..the plumbing doesn't work right and electrical sockets are dead..
And they pay these super crazy prices..

I have always been a fixer upper type of person..I just get more satisfaction with that then buying new junk..

I laid up the left face skin..Looking good..Need to find some stainless steel screws to secure it in place..

Where the 2 sides meet in the middle, there is this gap that is covered with a trim piece..I need to fill that up somehow..

The other side is still clamped up with the new wood..Try to install tomorrow..

Dump for the grey tank..

When you are trying to custom make sewer pipe, the problem is the trial fitment as the tube doesn't want to fit deep into the fitting..And that can cause issues when you finally glue it all together..A little axle grease in the fitting allows the pipe to slide into the fitting till it hits bottom..You get a true fit up that way..Wipe out the grease before gluing..

Pictures showing the fit up and install..All done with that!!

I like the cure time 24 hours vs 7 days and the urethane aspects along with the foam capability. I'm finally to the point in my makeover where no second-guessing is going to be allowed.
