Does anyone know if the tranny ebrake set up is just a tailshaft housing bolt on or does it involve the actual tail shaft itself?

DaveVA78Chieftain

The grooved transmission tailshaft spline inserts into the parking brake drum. One large nut is used to bind the drum to the tailshaft (similar to a front wheel bearing nut).

So if I am going to have a tranny built I need to use one with the ebrake on it or change the output shaft correct?

If memory serves I think the tail housing is also different. Best bet is to start with a unit that has the Em Brake assy already on it That way you will have all the necc parts except the cable These were very common in the mid 50,s  Powerflyte and torqueflyte  Frank

While tranny brakes work great make your you place a lot of heat shielding around that area, one trip with the E-Brake on can start a brake fire.

I actually have the one that is in the winnebago that I have. Been thinking about replacing it with an aftermarket performance tranny made for towing like a TCI towing package. They don't build them with the ebrake. I have actually never used the ebrake in all the time I have owned it.  :)
