I have a 78 Itasca with a 454...where is the fuel filter normally?

If you have a Quadrajet carb, then you have a filter screen on your fuel inlet line at carb. Not sure what chevy chasssi you have, but on the P30 chevy chassis, you will find a canister style filter around midship mounted to the frame.

If you have a quadra jet there's also a fuel filter on the carb on the front where the fuel line comes into it. There are some topics on here with how to change both. Very good reading and cheap filters/insurance to do to your rig.

Is it usually hidden by anything?

Mine just happen to be right behind one of the mufflers and a brace on the frame. I moved it to the rear. You would think out of all that length they could've put it in an easier place from the factory. Usually about half way and near the side walk in door.
