What is a safe weight for the bunk over the drivers seat?

Brother in law slept on ours a couple weekends ago. He's roughly 5-10, 230

Lefty

I slept in ours, 5'10" 220lbs, It held ok, but like mentioned the space is a tight fit for a big fellow. I whacked my head just about every time I rolled over.

<-- 6 foot 210 lbs, and thank goodness mine hangs low enough to roll over in.. :D

EDIT: Romping is NOT advised.....

To be more precise I have 2 -150 lb adults to stuff up there. safe or will they end up on the floor. Also any lubrication points, seems stiff going up and down?

On the serious side, if'n it anything like all the ones I've had/seen, the Axis at the scissor joints and the roller tracks..

I saw a modern pull down yesterday it had a weight limit of 250 pounds I would imigine these are not much different. That would be a tight squeeze for two big people.

I just slept in my recently reconstructed pull down for a week, I had clearance to roll over but barely. I'm 6'2 and fit length wise just fine, width wise (mine is 34 inches wide) I would not want to share the space with someone else, two back sleepers won't fit.....

They are husband and wife and are spooners (so they say). I will cut 4 2x4's to place at the corners to act as extra supports. I would hope combined with the floor it can be solid enough.

The four corners should not be your concern, it's the side rails. Those will give way before the corners do. They will crack at the center point..

I would recommend supporting the center, one 2x4 with a load spreader on top (5/8" 12"x12" panel)...

If you want I can draw that up in 3D!  :D  Complete with "Spooners"

 ;) :)ThmbUp

Here is a rough idea of what I was talking about..

The bed with the support in place..

And "Spooners"

Here is the support on its own..

Hmm, Hm? you can still see the "Spooners"...

Anyway, you get the idea....

Any reason for the bow legs on those spooners? :D

joanfenn

My guess is that it is from their legs wrapping around the corner supports so they don't fall off.  But i??

Anyway, that's what I would do just to be on the safe side with that overhead bed..
