I have a 74' Indian 25' Dodge Chasis 440cu in. I lost the lower shock
absorber bolt on the passenger side.Dealer doesn't have it. Can anyone help?
Its about 61/4" long.

Pugsley,

The part number for the front lower shock bolt is 9420846. This doesn't help you because the dealer said they don't have it. What the dealer probably didn't tell you were the specs for the bolt which can help you locate one.

9420846 is a Grade #8,  1/2 - 20 x 6" long with a 3/4" hexagon head. The original is listed as having a phosphate finish.

These specs can be used to obtain a duplicate bolt. Try any place that carries high grade fastners in your area.

(Note the length in the specs is the shaft, exclusive of the head)

Thanks Cousin Eddie. The part # that you gave me is the same one I have. I
did find 2 dealers one in Kansas and another in Tennessee that have it in
stock. I live in NY. I could mail order it or with the specks you gave me
I'll go to a local hardware store. Also there is a spacer and a bushing that
slides over the bolt. Would you happen to have those part#'s, thanks, pugsley

I had the same thing I just used a 1/2 x 6'' grade 8 bolt, go with what Cousin Eddie says but I would go to an auto parts or industrial parts place , as hardware store often dont have grade 8 or if they do not plated. You should also have a lock nut on there, I used a nylox which is easier to get off next time replace the shocks.

Thanks for the info Mike. I will use a locknut when I replace it and make
sure the bolt is grade 8.

Pugsley,

There is no part number for the spacer. It is shown in the parts book and listed with no number and the notation "SPACER, shock abs. to Clip Seat ( Not Serviced)"

When "Not Serviced" is noted it means the part was never stocked for replacement, even when the vehicle was new. You can measure the one from the other side and come up with some sort of suitable replacement.

Good luck!

Thanks for the info cousin Eddie. I'm going to cut a piece of 1/2" conduit
for the spacer. Mike gave me the idea, said it worked for him.
