What is that "L" shaped hock bar that is attached to the top of the battery box for? Does anyone here know what I'm talking about?

Are you referring to a short L shaped rod? My D22 Indian has one attached to the top of the battery box so that when the compartment door is opened and swung all the way opened and up, the short rod can be pulled part way out and the "L" part rotated upwards to hold the door open, thus freeing both hands to tug & pull on the "sliding" battery tray.  My C20 Brave didn't come with such a rod.   Photoman

I detest that "L" thing!  I always seem to bump it with my head and then it turns and the compartment door flops down on me.  I cut a notch in the edge of the comparment door and added a spring-loaded compartment latch the body to hold it all the way open.  I liked it so much, I did the same with my generator and LP gas tank doors.  I got them for nothing off the sides of some rigs in the magic junkyard.
