Where do you put your trash inside your RV?

This may sound stupid, but for those of you that have 70's Winnebagos where do you keep your trash?  All of the cabinets open vertically so I can't put it on the backside of a cabinet.  The only two that open vertically are closets and I'd rather my clothes not smell like trash.  So do you just put it in the walkway?  All ideas are appreciated!  Thanks!

If that's a stupid question, then I am as dumb as you are because I have been wondering the same thing.  I have a 1975 D19, my first RV.  I bought a small round step can that I can't find a good spot for, and also a slim bathroom wastebasket that goes in the bathroom, but then what to do with it when you are on the road? Seems like inside you'd have space and odor problems and outside you would attract critters.

Now that's a great question. :)ThmbUp LJ and I will usually save our plastic Walmart bags and will tie one on the handle of the stove. Once it's full or just before we head out we'll tie it off and throw it in the garbage can at the store were at. We have a small waste can in the bathroom lined with a plastic shopping bag and as it fills up we'll tie it up and throw it in the store garbage can. Now remember we are but two and usually only lay over for a night or two. However I can't see why it wouldn't work if you were staying over a little longer. Oh! Hey not a dumb question at all. The dumb question would have been the one you DIDN'T ASK :)ThmbUp :)clap ??? :)rotflmao

Thanks.  I'm sure this is only one of many practical challenges I will encounter when I finally get out on my first real trip (soon, I hope).  I have been reading on this forum religiously and soaking up as much as I can.  I'll have to see if I can come up with a new one for y'all.

I have a towel holder that I put on the outside of the washroom wall on the kitchen side and I do the same as Tj I Tie a plastic bag to that right in the kitchen where most of the garbage is generated.

We use a small grocery bag sized waste basket that we keep next to the dinette at the back. Same as all the others, we tend to empty it every day.

My current "rolling apartment" accommodates this matter quite well.

Not so in my previous li'l cottage on wheels!!!
"Dad! Where's your trash?!?"
"In the bathroom, shower, water closet,... whatever ya wanna call it. It's behind that door."

I hated the "hanging bags"!!! And those grocery bags from "Walmart" and every other grocery stop, were the worst,... holes, rips, too small and too weak!!!! I get a roll or pkg of typical kitchen size trash bags. But what to put 'em in, or how to best use 'em??? HECK! I live here!!!

After buckets, and assorted kitchen and bath type trash and waste bins, I happened on a nice deep "storage bin"!!! There's such an assortment of storage bins, most are typical shorter than wide, and I have a big assortment for every need large and small. This one was deeper,.. sorta square and jus deep enough. WITH, a latching lid and built in handles!!! About typical bathroom size, I suppose. Drop a bag in and over the top sides (bags were a bit large), and you could still set the lid on AND latch it down when under way!!! Kept in the bathroom mostly, as it was easily accessible, and occasionally set outside,... the lid latched securely on two sides!!! No intruders, no spills, no smells,... it wasn't pretty, it was clear with a blue lid. A pain to keep clean. But it was my last and best one yet. I think my daughter now uses it for storage, and I still have a lot of other various sized bins and storage to keep things organized and clean,... odd parts, loose tools, welding stuff, bike stuff, a bin for everything. The bin for grease, oils, caulks, and such is the worst!!! But they keep leaky stuff contained, and keep my bunks and storage areas clean. I can pull a tray or bin out, sort it, reorganize it, clean it and replace it into it's own clean space much easier than "loose" storage, and great under way.

One thing I find helpful on this topic concerns food garbage/scraps that tend to cause odors:
In the freezer of my fridge I keep a 1 liter ice cream bucket. Put a small plastic bag in it - the ones you use when buying tomatoes, peppers, etc. Any meat or produce trimmings, or various meal left overs, I put in it and back into the freezer. No smell. When I dispose of regular garbage, the bag is added.
Works well for me, but I am one person. For a family........?

I read the first post and I was like, uh, why haven't I thought of this issue before? Then I realized that I don't really accumulate trash on my trips. Cooking and the like is often done at a campground with trash cans. If I boondock I don't generally eat a meal per se (frozen burritos or sandwhiches). Everything gets thrown away in very short order either at campground or at a gas station.

I never really thought about it before.

This is one of those really mundane questions that really makes you think. I am constantly tripping over our little can, no matter where it is.

IMHO, it seems like a design flaw to me.  As someone who cooks, the two most frustrating things I've seen are the lack of convenient trash disposal and the lack of usable counter space.   Is this better on the newer rigs?  How about some kind of a dumb waiter (I can hear the sarcastic comments now) --  shoot of some kind where you could toss garbage into a space beneath the rig, maybe into a metal drawer that can easily be emptied now and then?

Oz

I put mine under one side of the kitchen sink.  I saw a great photo of someone who did the same but actually cut an access panel on the exterior so when it needed emptied, they didn't have to wrangle it out inside, they just went outside, removed the receptacle, emptied and replaced it from there as well.

Hi I have as 75 Chieftain my trash is a small plastic trash can with a Walmart bag  under the left side of the sink. It only fits if you first wedge it under the sink plumbing. So far only dry stuff goes in it. I hate opening the door constantly. As for counter space and prep room for cooking it is not a designer kitchen i??

I know there is a better way and with time it will be found. :)clap
