I think that is a fairly standard flue vent size, or was 30 years ago. If you cant find a standard replacement at a retailer like camping world, you could either try adapting whatever the newer size lids are, or looking in the salvage yards having RVs in them; motorhomes or travel trailers, etc. The original lid may have slid-down into the duct that reaches up through the roof, but I think there would have been screw holes somewhere to keep it in place. Were you looking at the ebay item # 4649347640? That looks different from mine, but is much lower to the roof, would be less likely to get knocked off by branches.
Those vents vent have 2 purposes, I think. One is keeping out water, birds, leaves. The other purpose is to keep the wind blowing back over the roof (as you drive along) from interferring with the flue draft for the propane flame in the fridge burner.

If there arent any screw holes on yours, all I can think of is that your entire roof is a replacement, and when they reinstalled the fridge vent they forgot to screw the vent lid down - and it blew away on the highway.
Later this month I hope to be going to a salvage yard with some RVs, and will try to remember to see if they have any sitting on roofs.

after looking around a bit I was wondering if maybe we arent missing two parts, the base, and the cap, Dyers sells a ventline cap and base separately, and the base comes close to the 7 inch wide opening, and maybe that would explain the missing screw holes, if there is no base at all, just the flue?

I have had a really good experience with RV Surplus. Look here for what you need:

EDIT

After I posted I saw that they did not have the right size for you. I went with the 5" X 20" for my 74 Indian. I had put on a new roof though.

Dave,

What you need is the Dometic Refrigerator Vent. It is indeed over 7" wide and the cover is 11.25" wide X 27.25" long. It looks like this:

And of course you can get it from RV Surplus

SmallDiscoveries was on the right track, but needed the Norcold vent!

Get some double-sided eternabond to put it on with. It will hold it in place, with or without screws. I would go ahead and put stainless steel screws in with a dolup of silicone sealant on each screw.
