I am the new owner (new to me) of a 1978 Winnebago Chieftain, in lovely condition.  Everything seems to work, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to turn the two couches in the back area into a bed.  I understood it is supposed to make a queen-sized bed.  I feel kinda stupid, and I don't know where to find the answer although I've looked in the book which came with the camper and online.  Help!

I have a 76 chieftain it has one long couch across the back with two end peices at each side the is a Plywood board under the main cussion the you put between the end pieces and arrange bottom and back cussions to cover the wood into a queen size bed , if you have two couches facing each other like a dinette the shoud be an extra board to put between them or the bottoms slide out together. hope this helps -------- Sea Hag

On a lot of those models the couch area is also a dining area complete with table.  The table comes off the center post and sits on two wooden "ledges" that allow it to be the support for the couch cushions.  The couch cushions are then used as the bed cushions.

Rip one side out and replace with a built-in dresser.  Build a support for a double bed.  Skinny isle access but manageable.
