Thanks to everyone who makes this such a unique and helpful.  As a new member and winnie owner, you folks have saved me lots of trial and error (and money).  Now Casita Bravo is nearly ready for the road. But....

The tanks had been sitting for 3-4 years half full.  I tried diluting by filling the tanks with high-grade but the mix still fouled out the plugs (and perhaps the new edelbrock I installed).

I've siphoned out nearly all of the old fuel,  I'm swapping out the old plugs,  anyone have ideas for clearing the "varnish" out of the tanks short of dropping and flushing them?

Will Stabil work in a situation like this?

If you have siphoned out the old gasoline, filling the tanks with new should solve the problem. I would ensure there is a fuel filter located between the tanks, or tank selector valve, and the fuel pump. I like the plastic kind I can see into.
Maybe it wasnt the age of the gas that was the only problem. There might have been a puddle of water lying in the tank bottom, and a lot of rusty flakes might gotten drawn into the pickup. You might need to blow back through the fuel line to clear the bigger pieces of rust out. Also, the rubber fuel hoses can have tiny leaks in them, allowing air to be sucked in, instead of fuel sucked up to the pump.
I have driven a car with 5 or 6 year old gasoline in it. I dont recommend it, but it ran okay - a 59 Lancia Flaminia with the triple solex carbs.
